A mere 8 months after the conclusion of the hardest motorcycle race in the world, and after less than a week's notice, Team Carson Classic Motors has signed on to undertake the 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run. From our mobile machine shop, our team will be fielding SIX antique motorcycles; I will be competing on a 1929 BSA S29 Sloper, my dad Mike Carson will run either a 1924 Harley Davidson J custom bobber or early 1930s Harley VL flathead, my close friend Mike Wild will be running his same entry from the 2012 Cannonball, a 1924 Rudge Four Valve, custom bike builder Brent Mayfield will be on either a 1920s Harley JD or early 1930s Harley VL, fellow Confederate Chapter AMCA member David Lloyd will be riding his beautiful 1919 Harley Davidson J, and our final member as of tonight is my friend Steve Simpson who will enter his 2012 Cannonball bike, a 1928 Harley Davidson JD. Here we go again.

1919 Harley Davidson

Let's try again!

In September of 2011, I signed up for Lonnie Isam's 2012 "Coast to Coast" Cannonball Antique Motorcycle Run. I had a 1919 Harley Davidson F model that was under construction, and the deep desire to ride it from New York to San Francisco. I had NO team, extra parts or even any idea how much time, money or resources it would require to actually make this dream a reality. I decided to start a blog and begin to document this journey. It only took a few weeks, or maybe a month to realize I had put the wagon in front of the horse! My motorcycle was no way near ready to compete in an event like this, nor did I have the resources, parts, team or money to continue. All I had was the heart and deep desire to be part of this truly amazing event. I withdrew my name just about as fast and I had entered it.

I knew many of the riders and conceded to follow the event daily from my computer as they left New York on September of 2012, heading to San Francisco. Our AMCA local club, Confederate Chapter even help sponsored one of our members and his Team. Buck Carson, of Carson Classic Motors in Livingston Texas rode a 1927 BSA in the 2012 Cannonball Run.

My Blog site went dead after that event and I continued to complete the restoration of my 1919 Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Jump ahead to May 2013 - Lonnie Isam has announced a 2014 Cannonball Run and looking for riders to compete in a New Cannonball Journey event. I called Mike Carson of Team Carson Classic Motorcycles and again shared the deep desire to be part of this amazing ride. Within minutes, Mike and Buck Cason responded with this email:

"David, thanks for the call. As we discussed, prior to Lonnie's Face Book posting this morning, CCM had received eleven (11) inquiries from riders in four counties asking to be part of our 2014 team, if Lonnie did another Cannonball. After the Face Book announcement, and my email announcement that we would be fielding a team, I have received an additional nineteen (19) inquiries, including yours, just today. I am very pleased to formally tell you that you are now part of the Carson Classic Motors 2014 Cannonball team, along with UK Fass Mikey Wild (2013 VMCC Dreadnought Trophy winner!), Buck Carson (young troublemaker), Brent Mayfield (custom builder), and this poor old grey haired Texan, who will also be riding this time. Contact Lonnie at your earliest convenience to be on his confirmed rider list and to get the rider number you want. Our crew chief will be the infamous/notorious Brit Steve Norton. I am pleased and proud to have you on our team. Congratulations my friend! Now the really hard work starts!! Regards, your friend The Good Looking Texan.
